Temptation to over eat at this time of the year is everywhere. There are plenty of reasons to be together with family and friends. There is no shortage of opportunitites to gather and celebrate. Over-eating is one thing; over imbibing is something completely different.
There was a time, not too long ago, when alcohol related deaths exceeded 50,000 people per year. We are down to almost half of that now, but 25,000 people a year is still too many lives lost to something that is completely controllable.
We are surrounded by the message. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t drive “buzzed.” Get a designated driver. It’s in the news, on the radio, and on TV. Now, it’s in our blog. No one should ever have to live with being injured in an alcohol related accident. Can you imagine having to live with the thought that you killed someone in an accident?
If the thought of a life time of agony isn’t enough to stop you, the legal fees, fines, and increased costs of insurance are staggering. If you are headed out, instead of George’s order, just have a soda.
